Light issue with milky way and stars

Hello,

Maybe the topic has already been discussed and if this is the case, sorry.

I think there is something really wrong with stars and even more milky way visibility. Both visibility should depend on the level of ambient light. Simply put, when you have the sun, or an illuminated planet, or even an illuminated spaceship in your field of view, the stars should be barely visible (only the brightest), or even not visible at all, and the milky way should definitely not be visible at all.

It was not too shocking until the milky way was added, seeing it so clearly in daylight from low orbit, just above illuminated Earth makes really no sense at all. Now that I have noticed it and removed it, even the stars annoy me. Astronauts themselves say they don't see stars during the day, and this is something we can see on all space photos.

I also think the milky way is too bright even in the complete darkness but this is a much less important issue.

I can't recall any exact statements right now but I'm pretty sure that more dynamic visuals (like the expected effect you describe) are part of the plan. For the time being they're just implementing the basics and will return to them for polish in the future. Things are still pretty early along all things considered.
 
On pictures, the camera adjusts its gain to the ambient light level. So if having a lit object into frame, the gain will be too low to see stars. But if we are on the lit side but we are zooming on a clear portion of the sky (and we are outside the atmosphere), the camera will surely pick up stars and even the milky way because in this case the gain will be higher.

I can even see the Milky Way at noon (very faint but visible)...

If we are zooming on a clear portion of the sky yes I agree. But right now you can have half the screen with the fully lighted Earth and the other half full of stars with the milky way. It feels so obviously wrong I had to switch the milky way off.

I can't imagine the problem won't be solved at some point.
 
I would be satisfied by a ridiculously simple fix : Turn on/off the stars/MilkyWay layer around 44000 feet and around 45 minutes after sunset and before sunrise. And there could be a way to adjust the brightness of this layer progressively...
