i’ve been porting my game “You’re here again” from Unity to BRUTAL over the few days it’s been out, using ai to help with the port, and honestly i'm pretty amazed with how smoothly it’s gone lol.
the port is pretty much done now, with almost 1:1 functionality to the Unity version, and i'm seeing around 1.5x the performance in what i've tested so far. there are still a few small bugs to fix and some features to finish up.
one of the things i've enjoyed most is being able to write my own shaders to customise the whole look of the game. having direct access to the rendering makes experimenting so much nicer without having to work around Unity’s workflows.
working directly with the C# steamworks package has been nice too. everything feels more grounded in plain C#, and i have more control over how it all fits together.
i’ve also made a Unity-like editor for building levels, although i haven’t needed to do much level work because the existing stuff has come across pretty smoothly.
it’s been really cool seeing the game running outside Unity with everything working so close to the original. i'll be releasing it on steam very soon!
