What did you do in Kitten Space Agency today?

After much f5'ing today in KSA I downloaded the game!! and now i think I'll fly around some.Screenshot 2025-11-13 222137.png

By Jove!

Ran the game on Linux - Ubuntu!
No issues, accomplished my first lithobraking maneuver on the Moon!

I crashed into the moon at high velocity, used the EVA jetpack some (wow really takes some getting used to the controls being different from KSP) and then failed to load the "solar system" preset even at minimum settings haha.

I got the game running under Arch and then proceeded to mess with the maneuver system and fly to Saturn, which looks rather bald without its rings...

I didn't take any screenies, but in my first play last night, I crashed on Luna nose first and couldn't move, so gave up and switched to another craft. But then it crashed to desktop.

Today, I went back to Luna, landed, and successfully took off again, and returned to Earth. Tried to land at LC39A. Took some doing, but I managed it. Too bad there's nothing there.

Then I went to Mars and landed. Took off again and went to Jupiter. Decided to see if I could "land" on Jupiter. Well, yes, you can, but I got stuck again too!

Lastly, I went to Saturn, orbited, then went to Titan! And you can land on there too, and take off again, but the atmosphere is so soupy thick, it took several real-time minutes to get to orbit again. Good thing the ship basically has magic fuel and a magic engine!

Tried using the transfer planner to go to Uranus or Neptune, but couldn't get a good window that didn't take a literal human lifetime. So tried to return to Earth, but it crashed to desktop.

Oh well! All in all, I'm pretty impressed with this alpha build!

Practiced some close-in maneuvers using relative target mode.

Pro-tip: Don't hit anti-vel alignment when you're really close and using RCS for attitude control. You might just spiral around a bit due to numeric precision. :p

I de-orbited one of the included capsules and realized that friction/heat/ionization graphics have not been implemented yet. Although I managed to splash down (without a chute) there was no detection of a vehicle crash. I know it's a "pre alpha" and what has been released is a very very bare bones version. This is why I only donated $20 and will donate more as new features are added. Oh and still, the simulation looks awesome despite current lack of "functionality" and "game stuff"!

Yeah I'm at the point where right now I will enjoy messing around a bit, but I'm probably not going to start really pouring hours into it until ship building comes (and with it delta-v restrictions on craft.) That said I'm right there with you the bones of this game are very, very encouraging. It runs buttery smooth and the seamless transistions between vessels or map mode already make it stand out alot.

In KSA I attempted to break the speed of light by doing a gravity assist through the sun.

Game physics does not like it one bit. Throws up lots of red text.
Fastest speed I got was about 1000kms which is about 0.3% the speed of light.
The game seems to be trying to hard limit speeds at 999.9kms

I'm guessing when proper collisions get modelled this will not be possible. I'm just exploiting some expected early game physics bugs for fun.

It will be interesting to see if this game eventually models relativity on any level. Whilst I don't think the game needs to do stuff like gravitational lens effects, the speed of light is a real problem with spaceflight communications and KSA would be a fun sandbox for people to learn such concepts.

Might as well show my fist Kerbal screenshot from Jan 2012

Since the Rocket has insane amount of DV I tried Flying Brachisterone trajectory to the moon. messed up the fip point so had to do some coorection burns.

I noticed the route planner has “Hohman” under like a “transfer type” or something button. I’m hoping this means late game maybe we can plan a brachistochrone transfer trajectory.

brachistochrone flight will become neccecarry once Interstellar travel gets added. and with late game torch drives its just the fastest way to get arund the solar system. I n the meantime we might be able to plan flight paths with constant low thrust accleration like Ion drives.
