This could make building more fun and flexible, and make results look both cooler and realistic.
When surface-attaching parts, i.e. placing a cylindrical tank onto another cylindrical tank, automatically generate connecting structure (truss, welded sheet metal, other variants). This structure could have configurable percentage and distribution of coverage, offset modifiers, resulting in different mass and strength). Also it would be a connecting structure, instead of just two tanks magically sticking together.

That could make radially attached tanks look better without having to clip them, which would be very nice. I think it would be best as a purely aesthetic feature, though. If you wanted a stronger but heavier connection, struts would work fine.
