"Continue with Discord" Account Setup Flow

Gonna merge these together since it's all related, but these are some notes from signing up earlier today via Discord, and then logging in again on another desktop.

1. When first signing up, I'm given the option to 'Continue with Discord' or 'Use Email Instead', but I'm not told;
   • Will my Discord be publicly linked to my KSA Forum/Ahwoo profile? Answer seems to be no - good, but should tell the user before they sign up.
   • Will my Discord Avatar be synced to Ahwoo, and can I change them separately? (seems they're not synced - good)
   • Will my Forum username be the same as my Discord username?
     • I can change my Forum username, and I can change my Discord username - does it sync Discord->Forums?
       
   • Something like "Discord is only used to log in, your discord profile information is not shared with other users on Ahwoo forums" would be a good disclaimer to add when signing up.
     
2. Looking at my forum profile and settings, there's no indication that my account is linked to Discord
   • In future, if something goes wrong with Discord, is there any way to change my account to log in with Email instead?
     • My Email is listed, but there's no option to change a password
   • If this is in a separate "Ahwoo account" page, that's not made clear here.
     
3. I get returned to the page I was on when I clicked "sign in" or "sign up" (a forum post, for example), which is good - but the page doesn't show me as logged in until I refresh the page again.
   
   
4. When logging in, I get the same Discord "Ahwoo would like to access your account" pop-up, the same as when I signed up. I'd already granted permission when I signed up, is this the expected behaviour?

Great questions, we'll get this info into the help center once we launch but I'll answer the questions here for now.

1. We are using Discord as an identity provider, this means that when you sign up we request certain information from Discord and it provides it back to us. These are the things we would request if you signed up with us directly such as email and a user name. We also do grab your discord avatar, but we don't currently use it on the forums. It sounds like you don't like the idea of them being synced? That's good to know.
   • It's a one way flow so discord shouldn't display anything about you being logged in here, and we don't display that you've signed up with discord to anybody but yourself
   • Currently we're not syncing avatars to the forum, although we do plan on using it in some places in the future.
   • The user name will only be synced on the first login. After that they will be independent.
   • Clarifying what we use the Discord info for is a good call out. I'll raise it with the team
2. When you log into the forums you should be able to select 'Use email instead' on the login screen and then use the forgot your password option to set a password for your account. From there you can log in with either. We will have a more ergonomic way to update this in the future. There is no password directly on the forum itself as we're using a system that lets the forum share a login with any other apps we have in the future so you have to change the password in that login system.
3. Yeah, this is a pain. I think it's some kind of caching setting that we'll hopefully iron out as we go forwards
4. As far as we can tell, this is a limitation of the way Discord provides the sign in with Discord functionality.

Thanks for the info! That clears up any questions about it I could come up with. Will just be good to have in the help pages when they exist!

This is all good information, especially the ability to switch from discord authentication to email.
I used discord to sign up in a moment of weakness, despite disliking linked accounts, so it's good to know I can fix my mistake.
