In light of the recent big reveal that Rimworld will now be running on BRUTAL, I wanted to open a thread to talk anything Rim here. I think there's a pretty strong overlay of KSA enjoyers than are Rimworld fans too. Dean and Terra Incognita for sure. Me too! I've played a lot over the years, starting back before 1.0 I think. I have picked up every DLC day one.
I will share a few key memories from the rim:
One-Shot Potts
One colony of mine, actually a shared save with a friend, had a pawn by the name of Potts. Potts was not an exemplary pawn by any means but did possess a solid uranium war hammer. I will never forget how Potts used that hammer to shut down a prison break one fateful day. With a single blow, Potts completely destroyed the inmate's head. I had never seen anything that efficient before. A simple but impactful moment for me in Rimworld.
Typical Caravan Pit Stop
One of the more interesting Rimworld runs I ever enjoyed was a nomadic hot potato situation with a friend. One would play for three quadrums and some change, then pack up as much of the colony as possible, travel during the fourth quadrum, and then hand off the save file to the other guy to unpack and survive for another year. This made for a lot of nonsense but the highlight was during one of my pre-handoff caravan trips. One of the pawns was pregnant and went into labor during the travel. This opened up a caravan tile in the middle of a jungle. During the birth, the caravan was attacked (animals or raiders I forget which). What I also forgot, was to be careful with a drafter grenadier. This guy expertly lobbed a grenade straight into our gunner pawns and blew one of their heads clean off. But the baby was born healthy on the jungle floor in the midst of the attack! I made sure to pack the decapitated corpse for my friend to deal with at the new colony site during his turn.
Endless Suffering
What may be a semi-common occurrence, I had sanguophage more or less keeping a colony together. Very useful pawn. That is, up until one particular raid was just too much. The sanguophage went into an involuntary deathrest and everyone else was either killed or kidnapped. This left the colony technically standing but some combination of circumstances (injuries I think) never let the sanguophage wake up. Instead of letting go I just ran the game for probably over a quadrum, hoping something would bring things back from the brink. I think he was eventually just kidnapped in another raid that showed up as well. This took place over a cold winter so I think he lost a few digits to frostbite as well. Pretty messed up existence to endure!
I invite you all to share any iconic moments from your own playthroughs! Or whatever you're planning on doing with the new performance boosts we'll be seeing! Or just any Rimworld chatter, share colonies, mod recs, etc etc.
