    Progress! On to rigging :)

KSA's Part & Art Development Thread

Part variants are the first thing I think about hah. It's nice to have options :) Finally got something together that works - first iteration of a folding, sun tracking solar panel. The design is based off the Soyuz-7K \ 7K-TM panels, nicely rectangular in the same aspect ratio of the...

KSA's Part & Art Development Thread

On to big folding solar arrays next, alongside a look at how to design a universal truss system for the panels & everything else in the game. You got your wish hah Also had this render floating around, don't think I posted it anywhere. Some context for the scale of the boosters (and the...

Yeah we need to work out an animation system first before we can unfurl large panels. Ideally that'll go hand-in-hand with the docking port elements, the landing legs deploying, SM doors, all sorts. Not even sure it's PBR materials make sense at this stage; they're assigned as metallic in my...

Lil pile of batteries :) Not 100% happy with how to approach the solar PBR textures, or the truss holding it up. Ideally the truss systems will be housed in the structural atlas (alongside all the other structural pieces) and referenced in to any part that needs it. Will give it another...

KSA's Part & Art Development Thread

Fanmcy render from Discord, currently importing this into a meshatlas to be turned into a part. We need a bit more time to work out an actuator system before it can move and behave like it should, but should be in the game shortly :)

If they wiggle you've broken them :P They're essentially a fused metal latch that interlocks with another port using the petals as fingers, and the hooks on the inside of the petals as clasps. Suspended on those actuators, once contact has been made the mechanism pulls itself (and the other...

KSA's Part & Art Development Thread

Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread containing all the in-progress progression and WIP content I post to Discord. As the forums are a little more grounded and persistent compared to an endless scrolling list of short-form content; it might make for a better place to discuss ideas...

Segmented Solids (Daishi's Dev Update #20)

TIL about NTO TVC. SMH o_O Seriously though there's sooo much engineering out there to learn; that's a very unique approach. Totally forgot about the Titan sets

Segmented Solids (Daishi's Dev Update #20)

Just tidied up the emissive maps, did a few turntables, and now the SRB's are pretty much done. Did a bit of a writeup on Ahwoo re: the tech in general; have a read here :) https://ahwoo.com/news/9918289/kitten-space-agency/segmented-solids Now to break them all up again, whack them in a...

Interstages and Structural Plates (Daishi's Dev Updates #19)

Argh so much cool stuff out there, love it. Don't know how I missed that - I'll def take inspo for the smaller landing legs :D

Interstages and Structural Plates (Daishi's Dev Updates #19)

Yeah should be easy as just modelling another foot with the same ball and socket joint :) Didn't mention it earlier, but I've also done a small pass on the metallic fuel tank PBR and normal maps, giving them more depth. Should catch the light and transmit spec a little better in-game.

Interstages and Structural Plates (Daishi's Dev Updates #19)

Parts progress for the month of Febuary! Alongside a big push to get IVA implemented, we have a handful of new parts.... To make building a little easier; we have a series of modular low-profile structural plates. These are constructed around a central "node" system where the actual...

IVA Update! (Daishi's Dev Update #18)

He deserves much more than a polaroid - but as a starting point why not :D Bound to be a lot more objects like that built over time to populate IVA spaces, I was going to do a few plushies and cat toys and things, but have much more pressing priorities now 💪

IVA Update! (Daishi's Dev Update #18)

Lights on! Doing some tests with the environmental light turned down (as it would be in space) and populating the IVA with spot and point lights. Looking forward to what the [REDACTED] team are going to do with it 🕵️‍♂️

IVA Update! (Daishi's Dev Update #18)

Thankyou all :D I do love how it looked with the first Ambient Occlusion bake, don't think I've shared those pics yet Texturing continues! 💪

IVA Update! (Daishi's Dev Update #18)

A little tumble of my last week of solid IVA work - we have a fully unwrapped and consolidated capsule interior, AO baked, 90% textured, almost there! New upholstery (I am so sorry 😭, racing stripes were two decades out) alongside fully finished chairs, internal assets (joysticks, throttles...

New year, retro hardware (Daishi's Dev Update #17)

The joysticks and throttles are subparts you can put anywhere - depending on what the character animators need\want they'll probably change places :)
