Game Version

2026.3.2.3736

Operating System

Debian sid

What Happened

Pretty sure I'm not supposed to whiz around Enceladus at 4.6Kps on a ~8 minute orbit and have 0.1 TWR on a stock Rocket with dev engine.

What Was Expected

Order of magnitude less gravity and orbital speeds, comparable to Mimas (~300M/s, ~80 minutes orbit)

Reproduction Steps

  1. Enter Enceladus SOI

Reproduction Rate

Always.

Yeah something doesn't seem to math out.

Per Enceladus' data on Wikipedia:

vo = sqrt( GM / r )

G = gravitational constant - m^3⋅kg^-1⋅s^-2
M = Mass of massive body (Enceladus) - kg
r = distance from parent body center (Rocket SMA) - m

vo = sqrt( (6.673E-11 * 1.08E20) / 253000)

vo = 168.8 m/s

Which is far from ~5km/s.

This does equate to a 1000 factor inside the sqrt, though. Ex:

vo = sqrt( (6.673E-11 * 1.08E20) / 253)

vo = 5336.5 m/s

Which is more like what we see.

The game's XML data says that Enceladus has a mass of 108.5 zettagrams, or 1.085E20 kg / 0.00002 Earth masses. This matches the Wikipedia data.

So something is off with the calculations. (Assuming I have checked these numbers correctly which is not a guarantee at this hour of the night.) Good catch.
