This is a repost of something I initially posted on the discord. After reading a discussion on food choices for kittens in space, I found this NASA-endorsed scientific PDF that went to the trouble of ranking different species based on how good they would be for space aquaculture: Shrimply Delicious: A Decision Framework for Space Aquaculture Species Selection

They found the following:
- brine shrimp are the best for early space outposts, since they are really productive, low maintenance, and can be stored easily
- golden apple snails are better for stations that get resupplied regularly, since they aren't as productive but are more nutritious and at least taste "unoffensive" (as opposed to "unsavoury")
- Nile tilapia could work in established colonies, since the appealing taste of fish would be worth the inefficiency and storage difficulty
