I was wrong, everything is fine. Not a bug, but a (splendid) feature!

Game Version

2026.1.10.3353

Operating System

Windows 11

What Happened

The shadow of Saturn projected on rings is wrong when a vessel is in it influence sphere.

What Was Expected

The shadow is the same as when no vessel is near saturn:

Reproduction Steps

  1. Do a transfert with Gemini7 to Saturn
  2. See shadow being wrong when the vessel is comming near Saturn

Reproduction Rate

Always

I know the rings are still worked on, but I report so you are aware of this issue since it happen only when a vessel is near saturn.

The angle of the sunlight to the ring changes over time (while you're doing the transfer), I don't think anything is wrong here

Damn, you are right, and I'm so wrong!

I never saw pictures of Saturn with curvy shadow on rings, thus I thought it wasn't possible (I thought rings are on the same plane than Saturn orbit). So it is not vessel related, but simulation time related...

Now, I notice that the ring cast shadow on themself when aligned correctly with the sun 🤯 This is an incredible level of realism.

Not aligned:

Aligned, thus nearly invisible:

Nice work, rings are splendid 🤩

Nice, I actually thought the entire self-shadowing would happen but didn't get perfect alignment in my testing lol

Realistically, the edge closest to the light should still be visible with perfect alignment but I didn't implement that since perfect alignment is rare, will add that later on
