In KSP and KSP2 ion engines are extremely overpowered, something like 100 thousand times, which is unrealistic and unfair. i suggest to make ion engines more realistic and give them opportunity to work in "background" without player's control. (if it's technically feasible)

However, adding an adjustable multiplier to the difficulty settings would be very good idea

There would definitely have to be some automated controls (which is the plan as far I can tell). KSP's ion engine is that powerful to be remotely viable even when that whole system is roughly 1/10 of the real world. KSA is likely going to be 2-2.5x KSP's scale. Combine that with a huge reduction in thrust and ion engines are going to be effectively useless for anything manual.

So either an automation system that is approachable enough to make them viable, or sacrifice "realism" for "fun" and make them extra powerful. Depends on the balance between video game and hard simulation that RW is going to strike.

2-2.5 scale is nice
There definaly needs to be a manouver planer for low thrust engines and thrust in background
