Suggestion: Seamless Camera Continuity Between Map View and Flight View

Right now, the transition between flight view and map view is technically seamless, but pressing M still triggers the map UI overlay and snaps the camera back to the default flight-view framing.


A small quality-of-life improvement would be to sync the camera position between the two views. For example:


  • If I zoom all the way in on my vessel while in map view,
  • then press M to exit map view,
  • the flight camera would remain in that same relative position and zoom level.

Because the engine already supports a unified space, this change would make the experience feel even more continuous. I often find myself zooming to ship scale in map view before closing the overlay, and having the camera maintain that exact framing.


Additionally, you could allow sequential presses of M to cycle the camera “reposition mode” e.g., first press exits the UI while keeping the camera position, a second press resets to the standard flight camera if desired.

Just some thoughts! Disadvantages being it might be frustrating to have to zoom in and out to people who prefer the map functionality in games like KSP.
