FPS performance issues, or is it just me?

My laptop is an approx. three year old MSI, with an i9 chip and a 4080 GPU. At startup, I'm getting maybe 60 to 150 FPS. But when I enter orbit around the Moon, it drops to 2 FPS and I have to quit the game. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have experienced some slowdowns for seemingly no reason in various scenarios. Sometimes even letting the game run in one place without input will let the frames drop over time. I'm not entirely sure of what causes it either.

I downloaded the most recent patch yesterday, and immediately noticed a huge loss in framerate. It was in the teens and low 20s. Previously it was a pretty solid 60 fps or better.

Linux Mint 22.2 using Bottles for compatibility
Intel i5 12th gen
32 GB RAM, 1 & 4 TB SSDs
NVIDIA RTX 4070 FE 580.105.08

I experienced the same thing. When I used the previous patch everything stayed at 60FPS all the time. After updating I am now getting around 2-3 FPS and it doesn't even matter whether I load just the Earth or the whole Solar system.

With v2025.11.4.2791 i had 60 FPS and more with the whole solar system
After the update to v2025.11.8.2847 and the same graphic settings i only had 5 FPS or less independent from only loading the earth or the whole solar system.

Update: the lag is caused by Oceans as described in this thread.
I did the following to remove the lag: open Settings => Graphics => Ocean => disable "Ocean" setting and apply changes
