Hello all retired digital artist here, learned blender to eventually make mods, looking forwards to start learning the process for this soon!

Spent close to 30 years in 3DsMax, made lots of space stuff, got older, decided to learn Blender and make parts etc for KSP2, didnt happen, ended up with a wealth of knowledge in Blender which i look forward to finally putting to good use once its possible for this game.

Thanks to all Devs involved in this, love everything about the approach so far, nice to see the important things like fundamentals are actually being taken seriously, very much looking forwards to trying out the pre-alpha.

Special request: Scott Manley for any in game tutorial voice!

Thanks, glad you like the work, im very much looking fowards to see my models in KSA, but ive been specialising in mainly complex 3d illustration for a very long time and am not used to working with polygon restrictions, also not familiar with too many games, nor the engines, so i have pleanty to learn yet despite all my years of experience. But since im retired, i bought a top end PC just for blender and have lots of time, and currently im very interested in how to export a given game, once i learn that part optimizing should be alot easier, i just really hope the game can load quickly for testing or has some type of real time asset streaming that i could abuse.

Is there a tutorial somewhere that explains how to convert Blender models to use in KSA like there is for Blender->KSP1? New to both, thanks.
 
Your gallery is incredible! That blender environmental work is beautiful. I look forward to seeing some KSA mods from you!

I never managed to move away form 3dsmax took so long to get ok at that. im amazed that you manage to switch horses in software that complex.

Its not easy, but wasnt as hard as i imagined, having lots of tutorials for everything certainly helps, and some stuff we take for granted in max (like the modifiers being stacked) are only just being introduced since they are good for workflow.

Best thing to do is take an extended break from max, then once you start blender, remap the basic keys (like alt+mm drag for viewports) as this will be the most frustarting part, rest is all 'similar' enough that you will know what its for/what it does from experience. Force yourself to do some project (for me it was re-sharing my free max models in blender), this will introduce you to enough of it to show you that its quite capable.

Once you see the results, i doubt it will be long before you fully transition, not paying Autodesk a small fortune anualy also helps. As a bonus you will be free of windows too, since blender runs as much as 40% faster on Linux.
 
yes i tend to mash my shortcut key sequences autmaticly and then the non autodesk software explodes.

the payment thing and forcing windows on you are the reasons i hate my software habits. same goes for adobe stuff.

when i went to arts school we had clases in photoshop. after transitioning from real 3d on the amiga to 3ds max 1.5 on the pc i got forced into a mold.

my jobs all where demanding those software packages too.

my current setup is to use vms for everythign and pass trough gpus into them so i do have windows 11 for the adobe and autodesk stuff and linux for the rest. (and macos for fun)
its all connected to a kvm switcher so i can go back and forth sharing files via network.

in the end every time i try to learn something new iam in danger to fall back into the oh so easy solution i know.
