KSA's Part & Art Development Thread

Thought it would be a good idea to start a thread containing all the in-progress progression and WIP content I post to Discord. As the forums are a little more grounded and persistent compared to an endless scrolling list of short-form content; it might make for a better place to discuss ideas and the development of the game's parts, art style, scope etc as it happens. When things are resolved enough I'll post em as their own threads as usual :)

I'll kick things off with the first look of our initial docking port part - an androgynous system designed to be both passive and active inspired by the APAS75 port created collaboratively by the Soviet Union and the USA. This was to help facilitate docking between a Soyuz and an Apollo CSM, and represented one of the first instances of a universal design that the Cold-warring nations worked together on. It sits a bit ahead on the timeline of the OG Apollo docking parts (as they were probe and drogue systems) but is probably more appropriate for straightforward craft-to-craft attachment this early in dev. We might branch backwards to more complicated passive\active systems as time goes on.

KSA-Brand Vertical Ascension Devices™️
Procedural length instead of having to place (and often struggle due to attachments points doing weird stuff on part joints) tons of them everywhere? Please? At some point in the future? 🥺
It's one of the pieces that really would benefit from proceduralness. Procedurability. That thing.

...same with the (possibly) extendable ones having the option to change length in the editor before launch.

Only Cool Cats climb with Pegasus I Mobility Enhancers KSA-Brand Vertical Ascension Devices™️
Let's just call it a ladder (or a cat climbing frame is fine too)

KSA-Brand Vertical Ascension Devices™️
Some thoughts on "ladders" and "climbing".

Ladders:
  • The KSA-Brand Vertical Ascension Device looks very nice! Thanks.
  • I agree with the comment above that (if possible) these should be procedural. I would like to specify exactly how many rungs I want. Adjust mass per rung if appropriate.
  • Same for extendable ladders - please make these procedural as well.
Climbing:
  • Many parts should be climbable, even without ladder parts attached.
  • For example, some KSP parts have rails. Others (like some cockpits) have hand-holds. Pretty much all truss parts. If it looks climbable, it should be climbable.
  • Maybe rails and hand-holds could be parts or sub-parts that users could add in place of adding ladder parts (procedural lengths, of course)
ALL the parts so far are looking fantastic!
