User Interface MeasureTools

MeasureTools adds click-to-measure ruler and protractor tools to Kitten Space Agency's map view inspired by @Nova 's Suggestions-forum Post in the discord: https://discord.com/channels/1260011486735241329/1511494698517266543 .

Measure straight-line distances between planets, vehicles, points on orbit lines or free points in space, read true 3D angles like the phase angle between two planets, and pin points to a planet's surface for great-circle distances and bearings.

Features

• Ruler - click two points to measure the straight-line distance. Snaps to bodies, to body surfaces (the edge of a planet's disc), and to points on orbit lines; clicks on empty space place free points.
• Protractor - click three points (arm, apex, arm) to read the true 3D angle plus both arm lengths, e.g. the phase angle between two planets around their star.
• Surface - pin two points to a planet's surface for the great-circle distance, chord, and initial bearing; pins track the body's rotation like ground markers.
• Live preview with snap highlighting, hover-sync between the measurement list and the map, and click-to-copy values.

Controls

• Left-click places a point (snaps to bodies, disc edges, and orbit lines); clicks on empty space land on the camera plane.
• Ctrl + left-click places a free point on the ecliptic plane through the reference body.
• A short right-click cancels the current point, or pauses measuring when nothing is pending, so the game plays normally with the window still open; pick a tool to resume.
• Clicking a row in the measurement list copies the full data set to the clipboard.

Planned: measuring in the vehicle editor, waiting for the upcoming editor rework.

Installation

1. Install StarMap (required).
2. Download from GitHub Releases or SpaceDock.
3. Extract into Documents\My Games\Kitten Space Agency\mods\MeasureTools\.
4. The game auto-discovers new mods on next launch.

Open the tool from the View menu in the map view.
