MeasureTools adds click-to-measure ruler and protractor tools to Kitten Space Agency's map view inspired by @Nova 's Suggestions-forum Post in the discord: https://discord.com/channels/1260011486735241329/1511494698517266543 .

Measure straight-line distances between planets, vehicles, points on orbit lines or free points in space, read true 3D angles like the phase angle between two planets, and pin points to a planet's surface for great-circle distances and bearings.

Features

• Ruler - click two points to measure the straight-line distance. Snaps to bodies, to body surfaces (the edge of a planet's disc), and to points on orbit lines; clicks on empty space place free points.
• Protractor - click three points (arm, apex, arm) to read the true 3D angle plus both arm lengths, e.g. the phase angle between two planets around their star.
• Surface - pin two points to a planet's surface for the great-circle distance, chord, and initial bearing; pins track the body's rotation like ground markers.
• Live preview with snap highlighting, hover-sync between the measurement list and the map, and click-to-copy values.

Controls

• Left-click places a point (snaps to bodies, disc edges, and orbit lines); clicks on empty space land on the camera plane.
• Ctrl + left-click places a free point on the ecliptic plane through the reference body.
• A short right-click cancels the current point, or pauses measuring when nothing is pending, so the game plays normally with the window still open; pick a tool to resume.
• Clicking a row in the measurement list copies the full data set to the clipboard.

Planned: measuring in the vehicle editor, waiting for the upcoming editor rework.

Installation

1. Install StarMap (required).
2. Download from GitHub Releases or SpaceDock.
3. Extract into Documents\My Games\Kitten Space Agency\mods\MeasureTools\.
4. The game auto-discovers new mods on next launch.

Open the tool from the View menu in the map view.

MeasureTools v1.1.0 - Part-level and CAD-style measuring

This update enables measurements of smaller scale between rockets and individual rocket parts with CAD-style snapping and two new tools.



Changes

• Points now snap to individual vehicle parts with centimeter precision: attach nodes, part centers, mesh vertices, feature edges (slide along a tank rim between its vertices), edge midpoints, fitted rim centers, the mirror of the previous point across the part axis, and the exact hull point under the cursor. Works on the vehicle you fly and on vehicles nearby.
• New Circle mode: one click on a circular part edge (tank rim, engine bell exit) reads its diameter, radius, and circumference from a fitted circle.
• New Face angle mode: two clicks on part surfaces read the angle between the surface normals, e.g. engine cant or fin alignment, live.
• Ruler measurements between parts of one vehicle additionally report axial and radial components along the stack axis, on the overlay and in the copied text.
• Measuring now works inside the vehicle editor via a new top-level Measure menu, including parts currently held in the hand; measurements update live while dragging parts.
• Measurements survive staging, docking, launch, and editor/flight transitions: anchors follow their part to its new vehicle instead of disappearing. Only destroying the part removes the measurement.
• Reworked Measure window
• All overlay colors are configurable and organized into switchable palettes: four shipped ones (Red, Green, Blue, Contrast) plus your own, editable and persisted across sessions, with quick switching from the window's Palette menu.

Validated against KSA build version 2026.7.6.4939. Requires StarMap.
